Psilocybin is a psychedelic chemical compound found in mushrooms classified as a Class A narcotic in a majority of Western countries including the United States and United Kingdom. The effects of psilocybin activate after an individual ingests mushrooms. As a prodrug, the chemical compound reflects mirrors effects of LSD and other hallucinatory narcotics that may influence cognitive awareness.

The National Academy of Science (NAS) reports that people living in urbanized communities face mental health challenges that affect their quality of life. NAS’s research findings indicate unnatural and/or concrete environments for people increase psychiatric disorders; disorders range from and include general stress, selective migration (constantly moving inter/intracity, and schizophrenia. To resolve the stress, local citizens have turned to micro dosing mushrooms for the psychedelic effect to enhance their lives.

Professionals including friends and neighbours advocate for micro-dosing mushrooms as they believe it liberates them from the stressful world of society. The perceptions of psilocybin use is seen as positive from professionals and community members alike.

University professor Dr. Lindsay Jordan argues psilocybin has improved her quality of life and it has given her a new perspective to living life to the fullest.

A colleague told me I’d become a lot more open, a lot warmer. My job used to be a struggle. I used to not enjoy teaching, and my students did not enjoy learning. Now I can teach in a hot stuffy room for hours and look out across a sea of smiling faces.” Jordan happily says.

Dr. Jordan also emphasized that psilocybin elevated her to a positive mindset.

Micro-dosing contributed to the end of my marriage…because it led to me seeing what I should be doing with my life. I want to devote my energies to serving my students and my lovely friends. We both feel much freer now…that’s a good sign – it means you’re integrating what you’ve learned into your everyday life.”

The imperial College of London validates Dr. Jordan’s statements as they have been conducting brain imagery research in Copenhagen, Denmark. Research team member Dr. David Erritzoe says in their findings that “the biology behind [micro-dosing psilocybin] leads to a ‘more-free’ state of mind or perception that people typically report.”

Dr. Erritzoe indicates that when a psilocybin micro-dose is taken, “it could be having a valid effect” on improving life and brain functions for a person choosing to intake mushrooms.
